Running Up That Hill (Jerome Isma-Ae Bootleg)

A few weeks back, we had the awesome opportunity to interview and check out Jerome Isma-Ae in action, all with big thanks to to the guys at Esscala and Santos Party House. We found Jerome to be an exceptionally humble guy with an unbelievable aptitude to put on an amazing show. The German born and based producer packed Santos, delivering a set laden with a few of his new tracks that the crowd just couldn’t get enough of. During his magical set, Jerome spun two new remixes that you’ll find above: his new remix of LTN’s “A Path to Nowhere” and a grunge remix of Placebo’s “Running Up the Hill” that’s been out since mid-summer. Both exceptional tracks that deserve a solid listen through at full volume. So while doing that, check out our exclusive interview below with Jerome.

So what other types of music do you find yourself inspired by?

Really, all kinds. I listen to classical music, beethoven, jazz, rock, heavy metal – I really listen to everything. I get a lot of inspiration from movie soundtracks, inspirations from other djs, how they build their sets, it’s hard to say. There’s not really one guy… many inspirations.

Have you ever rocked a Mohawk as a kid?

Of course I did! I was 16 – it was fun.

What’s your favorite track you’ve produced this far? – One when all your friends come over, you’re drinking beers and you’re getting drunk blasting much – what is your favorite?

If I had to pick one, it would be “Smile when you Kill Me”

What was it like working with Ilan Bluestone?

He’s a great guy – amazing and talented producer, we’re also very good friends. I think his music and my music fits perfect together.

What producer would you really want to collaborate with? Who’s that one DJ you’d love to do something with?

I could imagine maybe doing something with Eric Prydz. I really like his productions, I think he’s a very very talented producer. If I had a choice to go into the studio with another EDM producer it would be Eric Prydz.

Did you really get slapped in the face with a pair of headphones?

Yes.

Did that hurt?

Yes.

How did they capture that image of you?

Well, it took about 50 tries – and finally got it. It hurt a lot. It was the same photographer that did the one with the milk. Someone throwing headphones at my face and the blood comes out.

What that Photoshopped?

No, no that was real. Haha – well the blood was not real, it was Beet Root juice.

What’s the coolest place your career has ever taken you? What’s the most fun place you’ve been.

My favorite cities are New York, Buenos Aires, Bangkok and Rio. Maybe I’ve forgotten a few cities. I like Vegas, but haven’t played there. I think the crowd is too commercial for me, or I’m not commercial enough for the crowd. I dunno.

What’s your favorite place in Europe?

London, the Ministry of Sound of course. Amazing crowd, amazing sound system – an experience no one should miss.

Where do you think your sound is going next? Where’s the sound evolving?

I don’t think so much about where I’m going, I just go to the studio and work. If I ‘m happy then I release it. I don’t think like “Maybe I should go this direction” – it just happens in the studio.

Where’s your studio?

At home of course. I used to have a studio with analog mixers and hardware, but it’s all on the laptop now.

Mac or PC?

Mac – of course.

What ‘s your secret weapon on stage? For instance, alright it’s time to pull out my secret weapon – the crowd is mine. Is it the music, is it your drinking game, is it a dance? What’s your secret weapon?

The secret weapon are just the tracks I play. I’m not really the entertainment guy who’s like jumping around and stuff. I let the music do the job.

What’s the coolest thing about yourself that you could tell me? Something that someone else wouldn’t know? Maybe you have super powers and you can fly.

I’m just a normal guy. Nothing really special.

Do you have a particular cheese you like? Maybe ice cream?

No, I’m not really into cheese or ice cream.

Not a dairy guy, but you like beer?

I love beer. I’m German.

What’s it like working with the Anjuna team?

Amazing. I love the guys. They are so passionate and so professional, I really love working with them.
